EL DORADO, Ark., Apr 8, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Murphy Oil USA, Inc. (Murphy),
a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE:MUR), confirmed today
that damage to a pipeline Saturday morning, in which the Company owns a minority
interest, resulted in approximately 1,800 barrels of crude oil leaking into
Little Lake, an area about five miles northeast of Clovelly, Louisiana.
Murphy owns 29.4% of the CAM (Clovelly-Alliance-Meraux) Pipeline. A subsidiary
of British Petroleum (BP) operates the pipeline and owns 70.6%. BP, as the
operator and responsible party, is conducting the clean-up and remediation of
the impacted area. Murphy remains in contact with BP and has made its resources
available for their use, if needed.
"We trust that BP and the authorities involved are doing everything possible to
minimize the effects of the unfortunate accident and identify the cause of the
leak," said Murphy spokesperson Fred Green, Senior Vice President Supply and
Engineering.
Murphy does not expect this event to impact the operation of its Meraux,
Louisiana refinery if BP's repair efforts remain on schedule.
